Recently, we welcomed in spring with “Walk Gently Upon This Earth: A Conversation on Sacred Origins with the Esparza Family.” 🌸🌱
Led by the artist and her children Rosanna, Denise, and Alec, and moderated by VPAM Curator of Exhibitions Joseph Valencia, the afternoon’s chat offered insight into Esparza’s spiritual, cultural, and political foundations, and the ancestral knowledge that has guided her family’s work for more than six generations. Thank you to everyone who attended!
“Ofelia Esparza: A Retrospective” is on view through May 18, 2026. Learn more and make plans to visit at the link in bio!

Please note: VPAM will be closed Tuesday, March 31, 2026 to honor the legacy and sacrifices of the Farmworker Movement.
In this moment of reflection, we honor the many women whose leadership, labor, and vision have always been central to the Farmworker movement, including our friend and hero Dolores Huerta. We celebrate the countless women in our own communities who continue to guide and sustain this legacy.
We look forward to seeing you later this week during our regular hours.
MUSEUM HOURS:
Tuesday–Friday: 12PM–4PM
Saturday: 11AM–5PM
Did you know April is #NationalPoetryMonth? Join us on Saturday, April 18 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 for a poetry writing workshop inspired by the art and altar-making practice of Ofelia Esparza. Led by Los Angeles–based Chicana poet Gloria Enedina Alvarez (@gloriaenedinalvarez)—an intermedia artist, literary translator, curator, and creative writing educator—this workshop explores how poetry, like Esparza’s work, can serve as a space for memory, devotion, and storytelling rooted in family and community.
Free and open to the public. Writers of all experience levels are welcome! RSVP encouraged at the link in our bio.
