Join us for a special artist-led walkthrough with acclaimed Chicano poet, author, and photographer Luis J. Rodriguez for the exhibition Always Running: Photography by Luis J. Rodriguez. Rodriguez will guide visitors through the exhibition, sharing personal stories, historical context, and reflections on his photographs and murals documenting Chicana/o youth, gang culture, and life in the San Gabriel Valley from the 1960s through the 1980s.
Guests are invited to engage directly with the artist and gain deeper insight into the images and experiences that shaped his work and literary legacy.
The event will also feature a mini book fair presented by Tía Chucha’s Centro Cultural & Bookstore. All VPAM events are free and open to the public. RSVP now, space is limited.

Luis J. Rodriguez (born 1954) is a renowned Chicano poet, novelist, mentor, and activist who served as the 2014-2016 Los Angeles Poet Laureate. Born in El Paso and raised in Watts/East L.A, he overcame his experience with gang violence as a youth to become a leading voice in Chicano literature and community activism. He is best known for his memoir Always Running: La Vida Loca, Gang Days in L.A., and for co-founding Tía Chucha’s Centro Cultural & Bookstore in the San Fernando Valley.
Always Running: Photography by Luis. J Rodriguez is a traveling exhibition curated by artist and photographer Noé Montes in collaboration with Tía Chucha’s Centro Cultural & Bookstore. This presentation is organized by Noé Montes and Gloria Ortega, Curatorial Assistant, Vincent Price Art Museum.
