Our Artist Philosophy

We support artists by celebrating their creative vision and nurturing their growth as leaders within our communities. Through commissions, awards, and exhibitions, we spotlight and uplift artists at different stages of their careers. Our programming strengthens artists’ careers, provides students insight into diverse artistic practices, and positions VPAM as a recognized voice in local, national, and international dialogue.

Manuel Lopez

Manuel López is an artist rooted in Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles. His drawings and paintings are inspired by everyday moments of his home, neighborhood, and studio, reflecting the intimacy of familiar objects and spaces. Deeply connected to Eastside communities, López’s practice reflects a lifelong engagement with the people and places that have shaped him.

Phung Huynh

Phung Huynh is an artist and educator whose work brings light to the layered experiences of refugee and immigrant communities in the United States. Through drawings, paintings, and public artworks, she highlights themes of cultural belonging and representation. Deeply engaged with community members and students, Huynh’s practice illuminates the personal and collective stories that shape life in Los Angeles.

Guadalupe Rosales

Guadalupe Rosales is an artist whose work amplifies the histories and subcultures of Latinx communities in Southern California. Best known for her community-driven archives Veteranas and Rucas and Map Pointz, she creates platforms for memory, storytelling, and healing. Her immersive installations and collaborative projects elevate everyday experiences and reimagine how cultural histories are preserved and shared.
